Denver Broncos

Round 1 #12 OT Ryan Clady, Boise State
Round 2 #42 WR Eddie Royal, Virginia Tech
Round 4 #108 G Kory Lichtensteiger, Bowling Green
Round 5 #139 RB Ryan Torain, Arizona State
Round 5 #148 DT Carlton Powell, Virginia Tech
Round 6 #183 LB Spencer Larsen, Arizona
Round 7 #220 S Josh Barrett, Arizona State
Round 7 #227 FB Peyton Hills, Arkansas

Overall Grade: B-

Fantasy Outlook: The Broncos got an athletic tackle with their first pick in Clady, and he will fit perfect in their zone blocking scheme. Denver is hoping that Royal will develop into a Steve Smith (Panthers), but his primary role to begin the season will likely be in the return game. However, Royal should get targeted more often as a receiver as the year progresses, which means he deserves a look in fantasy. Torain is a bit of a project at running back, but with the way the Broncos develop that position, he might be a good sleeper in a keeper league.

Kansas City Chiefs

Round 1 #5 DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU
Round 1 #15 OT Branden Albert, Virginia
Round 2 #35 CB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech
Round 3 #73 RB Jamaal Charles, Texas
Round 3 #76 TE Brad Cottam, Tennessee
Round 3 #82 S DaJuan Morgan, North Carolina State
Round 4 #105 WR Will Franklin, Missouri
Round 5 #140 CB Brandon Carr, Grand Valley State
Round 6 #170 OT Barry Richardson, Clemson
Round 6 #182 WR Kevin Robinson, Utah State
Round 7 #210 DE Brian Johnson, Gardner-Webb
Round 7 #239 TE Mike Merritt, Central Florida

Overall Grade: A

Fantasy Outlook: The Chiefs took Dorsey with their first pick, and he figures to anchor their defense for several years to come. Even with taking Dorsey, Kansas City was still able to get Albert, which was the tackle they coveted. Albert should help open holes to restore their running game. Speaking of running game, Charles was a steal in the third round. Charles has game breaking speed, which means the Chiefs will find ways to get him touches.  Consequently, he is worth a look in fantasy, especially to owners that take Larry Johnson.

Oakland Raiders

Round 1 #4 RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
Round 4 #100 CB Tyvon Branch, Connecticut
Round 4 #125 WR Ahman Shields, Richmond
Round 6 #169 DE Trevor Scott, Buffalo
Round 7 #226 WR Chaz Schilens, San Diego State

Overall Grade: A

Fantasy Outlook: The Raiders may have already been deep at running back, but they did what they had to do and took McFadden in the first round. McFadden has a rare blend of speed, elusiveness, and toughness, attributes in a single player that can sometimes take decades to see again. With the success that Adrian Peterson had last season with Minnesota as a rookie, McFadden will be a hot commodity in fantasy drafts. Branch and Scott will both be major contributors on an already solid fantasy defense.

San Diego Chargers

Round 1 #27 CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
Round 3 #69 FB Jacob Hester, LSU
Round 5 #166 RB Marcus Thomas, Texas-El Paso
Round 6 #192 CB DeJaun Tribble, Boston College
Round 7 #234 OT Corey Clark, Texas A&M

Overall Grade: B+

Fantasy Outlook: Cason will be an instant starter, making them an even more stellar fantasy defense. Hester is a multi-purpose fullback, as he can not only block well, he can also run the ball like a halfback, ala Mike Alstott. Thomas will try to take over the role of LaDainian Tomlinson’s backup now that Michael Turner has left town. Thomas knows what to do with the football when he gets it, and he might be worth a look in a keeper league.

Houston Texans

Round 1 #26 OT Duane Brown, Virginia Tech
Round 3 #79 CB Antwaun Molden, Eastern Kentucky
Round 3 #89 RB Steve Slaton, West Virginia
Round 4 #118 LB Xavier Adibi, Virginia Tech
Round 5 #151 DT Frank Okam, Texas
Round 6 #173 S Dominique Barber, Minnesota
Round 7 #223 QB Alex Brink, Washington State

Overall Grade: B

Fantasy Outlook: Houston got their tackle of the future in Brown. Brown shold help open some holes up in the running game. Molden and Adibi figure to be starters on a mediocre fantasy defense. Slaton gives the Texans a back that can take it to the house with any given touch, and he has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. However, he may be utilized more in the return game in his rookie campaign, but he is certainly worth a look in keeper leagues.

Indianapolis Colts

Round 2 #59 OT Mike Pollak, Arizona State
Round 3 #93 LB Philip Wheeler, Georgia Tech
Round 4 #127 TE Jacon Tamme, Kentucky
Round 5 #161 LB Marcus Howard, Georgia
Round 6 #196 TE Tom Santi, Virginia
Round 6 #201 C Steve Justice, Wake Forest
Round 6 #202 RB Mike Hart, Michigan
Round 6 #205 WR Pierre Garcon, Mount Union
Round 7 #236 OL Jamey Richard, Buffalo

Overall Grade: B

Fantasy Outlook: The Colts found out last year that they needed to add depth at the tackle position, which is why they took Pollak in the first round. Pollak is certainly quick enough to be a great run blocker. Wheeler and Howard will be given every opportunity to start on an already stellar fantasy defense. Hart was a great value pick, and he works hard enough to where he should land a roster spot. However, Hart would only warrant fantasy consideration in deep keeper leagues.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Round 1 #8 DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
Round 2 #52 DE Quentin Groves, Auburn
Round 5 #155 LB Thomas Williams, USC
Round 5 #159 CB Trae Williams, South Florida
Round 7 #213 RB Chauncey Washington, USC

Overall Grade: B+

Fantasy Outlook: Jacksonville clearly had a plan to improve their defense as four out of their five total picks were on that side of the ball. Harvey and Groves give the Jags some much needed pass rushing ability on the outside. Some people feel that Jaguars reached to take Harvey where they did, but he will certainly help an already upper tier fantasy defense. The lone offensive player that Jacksonville selected was Washington, but he will likely only contribute in the return game to begin his career. Therefore, he doesn’t warrant any fantasy consideration at this time.

Tennessee Titans

Round 1 #24 RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina
Round 2 #54 DE Jason Jones, Eastern Michigan
Round 3 #85 TE Craig Stevens, California
Round 4 #103 DL William Hayes, Winston-Salem State
Round 4 #126 WR Lavelle Hawkins, California
Round 4 #134 LB Stanford Keglar, Purdue
Round 7 #229 CB Cary Williams, Washburn

Overall Grade: C-

Fantasy Outlook: The Titans waited until after the third round to address their need at wideout. Tennessee took Johnson in the first round to give them yet another running back with blazing speed. Johnson will be a nice compliment to LenDale White, which means he deserves strong consideration in fantasy as a No. 3 or No. 4 running back. Jones and Hayes will likely start on a solid fantasy defense.

Baltimore Ravens

Round 1 #18 QB Joe Flacco, Delaware
Round 2 #55 RB Ray Rice, Rutgers
Round 3 #71 LB Tavares Gooden, Miami
Round 3 #86 S Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame
Round 3 #99 G Oniel Cousins, Texas-El Paso
Round 4 #106 WR Marcus Smith, New Mexico
Round 4 #133 OT David Hale, Weber State
Round 6 #206 S Haruki Nakamura, Cincinnati
Round 7 #215 WR Justin Harper, Virginia Tech
Round 7 #240 RB Allen Patrick, Oklahoma

Overall Grade: A-

Fantasy Outlook:The Ravens got their quarterback of the future in Joe Flacco.  Flacco will compete right away for the starting spot now that Steve McNair has retired, which means he has some value in keeper leagues. Rice will be a nice change of pace back for Baltimore and Willis McGahee. Consequently, Rice is worth a look in the later rounds of fantasy drafts. Zbikowski was a great value pick, and he will be a great addition to an already upper tier fantasy defense.

Cincinnati Bengals

Round 1 #9 LB Keith Rivers, USC
Round 2 #46 WR Jerome Simpson, Coastal Carolina
Round 3 #77 DT Pat Sims, Auburn
Round 3 #97 WR Andre Caldwell, Florida
Round 4 #112 OT Anthony Collins, Kansas
Round 5 #145 DT Jason Shirley, Fresno State
Round 6 #177 S Corey Lynch, Appalachian State
Round 6 #207 TE Matt Sherry, Villanova
Round 7 #244 DE Angelo Craig, Cincinnati
Round 7 #246 WR Mario Urrutia, Louisville

Overall Grade: C+

Fantasy Outlook: Rivers and Sims will likely be immediate starters on a bottom of the barrel fantasy defense. Rivers is an impact player, and he has the potential to be a perennial all-pro. Simpson and Caldwell will both get to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver position, and whichever player emerges in that role, could warrant some fantasy consideration. The Bengals may have found a sleeper in Sherry late in the draft as he has the potential to become the quality tight end that they have been lacking for several years.

Cleveland Browns

Round 4 #104 LB Beau Bell, UNLV
Round 4 #111 TE Martin Rucker, Missouri
Round 6 #190 DT Ahtyba Rubin, Iowa State
Round 6 #191 WR Paul Hubbard, Wisconsin
Round 7 #231 DE Alex Hall, St. Augustine

Overall Grade: D+

Fantasy Outlook: The Browns did the best they could with the few picks that they had in the 2008 NFL draft. Bell and Rubin will see significant action on a vastly improved fantasy defense. Hubbard has some big play potential, but he will likely begin his career on special teams. Therefore, he would only be worth a look in deep keeper leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Round 1 #23 RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
Round 2 #53 WR Limas Sweed, Texas
Round 3 #88 DE Bruce Davis, UCLA
Round 4 #130 OT Tony Hills, Texas
Round 5 #156 QB Dennis Dixon, Oregon
Round 6 #188 LB Mike Humpal, Iowa
Round 6 #194 S Ryan Mundy, West Virginia

Overall Grade: A

Fantasy Outlook: Mendenhall is a perfect fit for the Pittsburgh style offense. He will be given significant carries as he splits time with Willie Parker. If he can stay healthy, and he already has a tweaked hamstring, then Mendenhall should be viewed as a solid No. 2 running back in fantasy. Sweed is another game changer that fell in the lap of the Steelers, and he also warrants strong fantasy consideration. Davis and Humpal will likely contribute right away on an already upper echelon fantasy defense.

Buffalo Bills

Round 1 #11 CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
Round 2 #41 WR James Hardy, Indiana
Round 3 #72 DE Chris Ellis Virginia Tech
Round 4 #114 CB Reggie Corner, Akron
Round 4 #132 TE Derek Fine, Kansas
Round 5 #147 LB Alvin Bowen, Iowa State
Round 6 #179 RB Xavier Omon, Northwest Missouri State
Round 7 #219 OT Demetrius Bell, Northwestern State
Round 7 #224 WR Steve Johnson, Kentucky
Round 7 #251 CB Kennard Cox, Pittsburgh

Overall Grade: B+

Fantasy Outlook: The Bills recognized their need to improve their secondary as they selected three corners in the 2008 NFL draft. McKelvin is a lock to start, and he may also be utilized in the return game. Buffalo took James Hardy in the second round to give them a red zone threat as well as a wideout to lineup opposite Lee Evans. Hardy should help limit opposing defenses from being able to always double cover Evans on obvious passing downs. Therefore, Hardy is worth a look in all fantasy leagues. Chris Ellis and Alvin Bowen will each be given an opportunity to fight for a starting job on a serviceable fantasy defense.

Miami Dolphins

Round 1 #1 OT Jake Long, Michigan
Round 2 #32 DE Phillip Merling, Clemson
Round 2 #57 QB Chad Henne, Michigan
Round 3 #66 DT Kendall Langford, Hampton
Round 4 #110 OT Shawn Murphy, Utah State
Round 6 #176 RB Jalen Pamele, Toledo
Round 6 #195 G Donald Thomas, Connecticut
Round 6 #204 RB Lex Hillard, Montana
Round 7 #245 DE Lionel Dotson, Arizona

Overall Grade: B

Fantasy Outlook: Miami found their tackle of the future in Jake Long.  Long should help keep the Dolphins’ quarterbacks upright for many years to come. Merling and Henne were excellent value picks, and they both will be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job. However, Henne will likely begin his career on the sidelines holding a clipboard, which means he would only warrant fantasy consideration in keeper leagues at this time. Kendall Langford fits well in the 3-4 scheme and has a good opportunity to see significant playing time on a mediocre fantasy defense.

New England Patriots

Round 1 #10 LB Jared Mayo, Tennessee
Round 2 #62 CB Terrence Wheatley, Colorado
Round 3 #78 LB Shawn Crable, Michigan
Round 4 #129 QB Kevin O’Connell, San Diego State
Round 5 #153 CB Jonathan Wilhite, Auburn
Round 6 #197 LB Bo Ruud, Nebraska

Overall Grade: B-

Fantasy Outlook: Mayo gives the Patriots some much needed youth at linebacker, and he has the flexibility to play on the inside or outside. New England used their second round pick on a shut down corner in Wheatley. If Wheatley can learn the complex schemes quickly, then he has a decent chance to start on an already stellar fantasy defense. Kevin O’Connell doesn’t figure to see the field anytime soon with Tom Brady as the starter, which means O’Connell does not warrant any fantasy consideration. With that being said, O’Connell should learn a lot under the tutelage of Brady.

New York Jets

Round 1 #6 DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State
Round 1 #30 TE Dustin Keller, Purdue
Round 4 #113 CB Dwight Lowery, San Jose State
Round 5 #162 QB Erik Ainge, Tennessee
Round 6 #171 WR Marcus Henry, Kansas
Round 7 #211 OT Nate Garner, Arkansas

Overall Grade: A-

Fantasy Outlook: Gholston will make the Jets instantly more athletic on defense, and he has pro bowl potential in the Jets’ 3-4 scheme. Lowery will battle for the starting job at corner on a middle-of-the-road fantasy defense, and he will likely help contribute in the return game. Ainge is a project at quarterback, but in a year or two, he could compete for the starting job. However, he does not warrant any fantasy consideration at this time.
