Ask DR U: Does My Team Need a Kick Start? »

Dan asks, how would you rate my fantasy team?

QB  Tony Romo
QB  Jay Cutler
RB  Willie Parker
RB Ronnie Brown
RB  Cadillac Williams
RB  Fred Taylor
WR  Chad Johnson
WR  Andre Johnson
WR  Chris Chambers
WR  Mark Clayton
WR  Vincent Jackson
TE  Antonio Gates
TE  Eric Johnson
K  Shayne Graham
K  David Akers
Def  Miami
Def  Carolina

DR U: Similar to what Drew Brees did last season, I think Tony Romo is going to emerge onto the fantasy scene this year.  I am not saying he will put up quite the numbers Brees did in 2006, but I am stating that you should be in good shape with him as your quarterback.  Cutler is a great fantasy No.2, and if Romo struggles, then you should be able to insert Cutler into your lineup and still be okay.

I think the weakness of your team might be at the running back position, or at least that is where the most question marks lie at this time. Willie Parker is a solid fantasy back, especially in yardage leagues.  However, Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, and Fred Taylor all figure to be starting running backs, but they are also very unreliable. That being said, they all go into 2007 with a chip on their shoulder, which could lead to stellar seasons respectively.  We will have to stay tuned for that.

I think you are set at the wide receiver position.  Chad Johnson is always good to have in fantasy as he likes to do his touchdown celebrations, which means he works harder than most to score points. Andre Johnson had a nice 2006 campaign, and even though Chris Chambers did not, everyone knows what he is capable of doing.  I also feel that Vincent Jackson is going to put up some decent numbers this year for San Diego.

Bottom line, aside from you taking some risky running backs, and the fact that your two kickers share the same Bye week, I think you have a pretty good squad.  I would rate your team a C+, but if one or two of your running backs not named Parker do well this season, then I think your team has the potential to be a B or higher.

Ask DR U: Is Tom Brady Enough? »

Matt asks, how would you rate my fantasy team?

QB - Tom Brady (Rd. 5)
        Jay Cutler (13)
RB - Joseph Addai (1)
        Deuce McAllister (2)
        Thomas Jones (3)
        DeShaun Foster (7)
        Dede Dorsey (15)
WR - Anquan Boldin (4)
        Santana Moss (6)
        Bernard Berrian (8)
        D.J. Hackett (9)
        Kevin Curtis (11)
        Patrick Crayton (16)
TE - L.J. Smith (10)
        Greg Olson (17)
K - Olindo Mare (14)
D - Miami (12)

DR U: I think you are very solid at the skill positions.  Tom Brady, Joseph Addai, and Anquan Boldin give your team the ability to rack up huge fantasy points every week. I love Cutler as your backup quarterback. Thomas Jones and Deuce McAllister can typically be penciled in for 1000 rushing yards each season. Even though Foster is a little hard to depend on, and Dorsey is unlikely to see the field very often, you are still in good shape at running back.

After Boldin, the rest of your receivers are quality No.2 and No.3 receivers. I think Hackett and Crayton will make considerable contributions to their respective teams this year.  You may not have all pro bowlers at wide receiver, but you should be just fine.

Overall, I think your team has a few upper tier players, and the rest of your squad is filled with players that have the potential to flirt with being among the upper tier. Bottom line, the majority of your players should be consistent for you as second or third tier fantasy players. I would rate your team a B.

time Posted on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 by Dr U | * Comments(7)

I just had my third fantasy draft, and here is what my team looks like.  Feel free to send me your comments on how you think my team looks.  This is a 16 team draft, and I had the 10th pick. I realize I ended up taking a lot of Cowboys, but they were all value picks.  I decided to list which pick I obtained each player to show their respective values.

QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (23rd overall)
QB Jay Cutler, Denver Broncos (106th overall)
RB Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints (10th overall)
RB Marion Barber III, Dallas Cowboys (42nd overall)
RB Jerious Norwood, Atlanta Falcons (55th overall)
RB Julius Jones, Dallas Cowboys (87th overall)
RB Michael Turner, San Diego Chargers (138th overall)
WR Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers (74th overall)
WR James Jones, Green Bay Packers (151st overall)
WR Wes Welker, New England Patriots (170th overall)
TE Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys (202nd overall)
K Jay Feely, Miami Dolphins (183rd overall)
Defense Dallas Cowboys (119th overall)

Ask DR U: Second Round or Bust »

tag
time Posted on Monday, August 27, 2007 by Dr U | * Comments(0)

Jason asks, I am in a 12 man league, and I have the third overall pick.  I know that I am going to take Larry Johnson or Steven Jackson, but who do I take in the second round between the following: Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, or Cedric Benson?

DR U: As much as I love Chad Johnson, I think you can wait until later in the draft and still land some productive receivers. Carson Palmer is a fantasy stud, so I have no problem with you taking Palmer in the second round.  I think the key is to get at least two running backs with your first three picks.  Therefore, you could go Larry Johnson, Palmer, and Julius Jones, or you could go Larry Johnson, Cedric Benson, and Reggie Wayne as your first three picks.  Good Luck!
