2008 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Jeremy Shockey

TE Jeremy Shockey, New Orleans Saints

2007 Stats: 619 receiving yards, 3 TDs
Projected 2008 Stats: 907 receiving yards, 7 TDs
Projected Fantasy Round: 6th Round
Tight Ends to be picked ahead of Jeremy Shockey: Antonio Gates, Jason Witten, and Kellen Winslow

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Jeremy Shockey: Before last season, Shockey averaged 726 receiving yards and over six touchdowns the previous three years.  In 2007, Shockey had seven games where he had at least five catches, and now that he is in New Orleans, he should haul in even more receptions.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Jeremy Shockey: Last season, Shockey had ten games where he was limited to 50 receiving yards or less.  Furthermore, Shockey has yet to play in all 16 games of any of his six seasons in the NFL.

Bottom Line: The Saints have so many weapons on offense that opposing defenses will have difficulties stopping them.  In other words, Shockey should be open a lot, which could lead to a season with at least 80 receptions.  Therefore, Shockey should be viewed as a solid No.1 fantasy tight end, but he is still on a lower tier than Antonio Gates and Jason Witten.
