2008 NFL Draft Report Card-AFC South
Houston Texans
Round 1 #26 OT Duane Brown, Virginia Tech
Round 3 #79 CB Antwaun Molden, Eastern Kentucky
Round 3 #89 RB Steve Slaton, West Virginia
Round 4 #118 LB Xavier Adibi, Virginia Tech
Round 5 #151 DT Frank Okam, Texas
Round 6 #173 S Dominique Barber, Minnesota
Round 7 #223 QB Alex Brink, Washington State
Overall Grade: B
Fantasy Outlook: Houston got their tackle of the future in Brown. Brown shold help open some holes up in the running game. Molden and Adibi figure to be starters on a mediocre fantasy defense. Slaton gives the Texans a back that can take it to the house with any given touch, and he has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. However, he may be utilized more in the return game in his rookie campaign, but he is certainly worth a look in keeper leagues.
Indianapolis Colts
Round 2 #59 OT Mike Pollak, Arizona State
Round 3 #93 LB Philip Wheeler, Georgia Tech
Round 4 #127 TE Jacon Tamme, Kentucky
Round 5 #161 LB Marcus Howard, Georgia
Round 6 #196 TE Tom Santi, Virginia
Round 6 #201 C Steve Justice, Wake Forest
Round 6 #202 RB Mike Hart, Michigan
Round 6 #205 WR Pierre Garcon, Mount Union
Round 7 #236 OL Jamey Richard, Buffalo
Overall Grade: B
Fantasy Outlook: The Colts found out last year that they needed to add depth at the tackle position, which is why they took Pollak in the first round. Pollak is certainly quick enough to be a great run blocker. Wheeler and Howard will be given every opportunity to start on an already stellar fantasy defense. Hart was a great value pick, and he works hard enough to where he should land a roster spot. However, Hart would only warrant fantasy consideration in deep keeper leagues.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Round 1 #8 DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
Round 2 #52 DE Quentin Groves, Auburn
Round 5 #155 LB Thomas Williams, USC
Round 5 #159 CB Trae Williams, South Florida
Round 7 #213 RB Chauncey Washington, USC
Overall Grade: B+
Fantasy Outlook: Jacksonville clearly had a plan to improve their defense as four out of their five total picks were on that side of the ball. Harvey and Groves give the Jags some much needed pass rushing ability on the outside. Some people feel that Jaguars reached to take Harvey where they did, but he will certainly help an already upper tier fantasy defense. The lone offensive player that Jacksonville selected was Washington, but he will likely only contribute in the return game to begin his career. Therefore, he doesn’t warrant any fantasy consideration at this time.
Tennessee Titans
Round 1 #24 RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina
Round 2 #54 DE Jason Jones, Eastern Michigan
Round 3 #85 TE Craig Stevens, California
Round 4 #103 DL William Hayes, Winston-Salem State
Round 4 #126 WR Lavelle Hawkins, California
Round 4 #134 LB Stanford Keglar, Purdue
Round 7 #229 CB Cary Williams, Washburn
Overall Grade: C-
Fantasy Outlook: The Titans waited until after the third round to address their need at wideout. Tennessee took Johnson in the first round to give them yet another running back with blazing speed. Johnson will be a nice compliment to LenDale White, which means he deserves strong consideration in fantasy as a No. 3 or No. 4 running back. Jones and Hayes will likely start on a solid fantasy defense.
