2009 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Matt Ryan

QB Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

2008 Stats: 3440 passing yards, 17 total TDs, 11 INTs
Projected 2009 Stats: 3555 passing yards, 20 total TDs, 13 INTs
Projected Fantasy Round: 6th Round
Quarterbacks to be picked ahead of Matt Ryan: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc.

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Matt Ryan:  In his impressive rookie season, Ryan twice passed for more than 300 passing yards in a game, and he had five games where he threw for multiple scores.  When a rookie quarterback is as productive as he was and able to throw more touchdowns than interceptions, you know the guy is a ball player.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Matt Ryan:  Last season, Ryan was limited to under 200 passing yards in seven contests.   He also saw a dip in his numbers his last three weeks, which could have been him hitting the proverbial rookie wall.

Bottom Line: Ryan appears to be poised to become a solid fantasy quarterback.  However, he still could be a year or two away from joining the elite quarterbacks, but he is certainly flirting with being in the next tier.  Therefore, he is a nice value in the middle rounds.
