QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
2009 Stats: 4,483 passing yards, 27 total TDs, 9 INTs
Projected 2010 Stats: 4,533 passing yards, 33 total TDs, 10 INTs
Projected Fantasy Round: 3rd Round
Quarterbacks to be picked ahead of Tony Romo: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, etc.
Fantasy Outlook:
Why you should draft Tony Romo: Over the last three seasons, Romo has averaged 4,047 passing yards and 30 total touchdowns. In that same span, Romo has had an average of a 95.5 passer rating. Last season, Romo had eight games where he eclipsed 300 passing yards, and he had another eight contests where he threw for multiple scores.
Why you may want to stay away from drafting Tony Romo: In 2009, Romo was twice limited to under 200 passing yards, and he threw one touchdown or less in eight games. Romo did a much better job of not throwing interceptions last season, but there are still going to be weeks where he hurts fantasy owners with his gun-slinging mentality. For instance, he threw three picks in Week 2 last season against the New York Giants.
Bottom Line: Romo is clearly a No.1 fantasy quarterback and is knocking at the door of being an elite signal caller in the NFL. In addition, Romo was given a new weapon this offseason in wideout, Dez Bryant, which should translate into even bigger numbers for Romo. Consequently, Romo is a great value in the late second round and beyond.
