DR U: This is an easy evaluation. Your team is stacked. I appreciate you asking for my opinion, but you do not need my help. Please refer the rest of your league to come seek my guidance, because how they let you draft a dream team like that is mind boggling. To answer your question, I would rate your team an A.

I know it may be kinda early, but for week one of the regular season who would be the better defense to start? The steelers or the Redskins??

Dr. U,
How would you grade my team and which RBs would you recommend I start. I picked 12th in a 12 team league. We start 1 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 WR/RB, 1 K and 1 DEF. Oh yeah, I’m dropping Duce Staley and picking up Jerious Norwood.
Thanks,
Rick

Nick,
It is never too early to talk matchups. The Steelers and Redskins are real good defenses to have. Pittsburgh hosts Miami, and Washington hosts Minnesota. I think Miami could give the Steelers some problems. Meanwhile, I don’t expect the Vikings to be able to do much against the Redskins defense. So at this time, I would suggest starting the Redskins defense. Good Luck.

Rick,
As long as Bledsoe is in the lineup, I think he will be a solid fantasy player this season. I don’t think Billy Volek has been playing well in the preseason, and there are already talks of Vince Young taking some of the snaps in the games. I would suggest dropping Volek for a quarterback like Chris Simms or Phillip Rivers. You are set at wide receiver, and I really like your tight ends.
I would suggest starting LaMont Jordan and Thomas Jones at running back. I like that you added Norwood. You may also look to drop Pittman for Wali Lundy, if he is available. I would rate your team a C. Good Luck!

Jay,
I think you have productive quarterbacks. Green has been Mr. Reliable and Brees can be lethal when healthy. I love your one-two punch at running back with Alexander and McGahee. They will carry your team far.
I think it is smart to add Antonio Bryant as I think the 49ers will utilize him often. Jackson and Wayne are great receivers as well. If I were to drop anyone on your team it would be Ladell Betts.
I would drop Betts and look to add Jerious Norwood, Wali Lundy, T.J. Duckett, or Marian Barber III. I would rate your team an A-. Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick response. I will drop L Betts - BUT I can only pick up one player…should it be Antonio Bryant or J. Norwood? As a reminder, here is my current WR and RB situation. We are starting 2 of each and 1 Flex (which could be either RB or WR):
RB
W. McGahee
S. Alexander
L. Betts
J. Lewis
C. Taylor
WR
D. Jackson
R. Wayne
D. Branch
B. Edwards
E. Kennison

Jay,
I would suggest grabbing Bryant. I think he will put up much higher numbers. Warrick Dunn is going to be the starter for Atlanta, so Norwood will get limited touches. He might break a few long runs as he has a lot of speed, but Bryant is going to be targeted quite often in San Francisco. I hope that helps.

Suzie,
You are set at quarterback. Your running backs are decent, but could use a little improvement. I think you should drop Ron Dayne and pick up either Wali Lundy or Jerious Norwood if they are available. If they are taken, I would pick up Brandon Jacobs or T.J. Duckett.
Your wide receivers are tight ends are pretty solid. I think you are on the right track on who you should be starting in Week 1, assuming you are planning on using your flex players as your bench. I have not reviewed all the matchups yet on who to start in Week 1, but check back to my site next week, and I will have players posted on who to start and who to sit. I would give your team a B-. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice, I dropped Ron Dayne and picked up Brandon Jacobs (since the rest were alredy taken). My flex players are my bench right now. I was offered a trade of Roethlisberger and Edgerrin James for Palmer and Reggie Bush and didnt take it. I hope that was the right call. Since this is a keeper league, I feel like this is my year to rebuild and if I get lucky and win a few games… bonus for me.

Suzie,
You did the right thing by rejecting that trade. Carson Plamer and Reggie Bush are oustanding players to have in keeper leagues. Roethliserger is a great player, but he does not rack up huge fantasy numbers. Not to mention, he will have to play most of the season with a thumb injury.
Meanwhile, Palmer puts up the type of fantasy numbers that will give you a chance to win every week. Edgerrin James is a great player, but he is on a team with a bad offensive line. Reggie Bush has a promising future and is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. You made the right choice.

Dr. U
Thank you thus far for your excellent advice. Unfortunately, I have had some bad luck in the pre-season. Deion Branch may not play, Darrell Jackson may be injured. In addition to these WRs, I have Reggie Wayne, Eddie Kennison and Braylon Edwards. I also have TE’s Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow. I have the opportunity to pick up any of these WR Free Agents: Roddy White, David Givens, Mark Clayton, Ashley Lelie, and Kevin Curtis.
1) Would it be a good idea to drop WInslow for one of these?
2) If so which has the most upside for this year?
Thank you again!

Jay,
Since Winslow Jr. has not been able to stay healthy, and the fact wide receivers typically get more fantasy points than tight ends, I would say you would be fine to drop Winslow for a receiver. Out of the options that you gave me, I think Clayton and Givens are the best. Clayton should have a few more touchdowns than Givens, but Givens will probably have more catches and yards.
I would rate them pretty even, but I think Clayton has more upside. Another option would be to see if you could trade Winslow Jr. for a receiver. Perhaps, you could land a receiver like Terry Glenn or Lee Evans in a trade. Good Luck!

Hey Dr. U
What should owners do with Deion Branch?

I have a predicament. Which RB should I start? Chestor Taylor or Jamal Lewis for week 2?
Friday, December 15th, 2006 at 10:23 am
Should I start Chris Henry, Santonio Holmes or Ricky Proehl this week? I unfortunately started Branch last night so I need a big week from one of the above 3
