Ask DR U: He is a Keeper?
Gary asks, I am in a ten team league and can keep two of these players: Jay Cutler, DeAngelo Williams, Brandon Jacobs, Tatum Bell, Marion Barber III, Reggie Brown, Bernard Berrian and Vernon Davis. I also have an extra 3rd and 4th round picks in the draft. Which two are keepers? And do you have any draft day advice? Thank you for all you do all year long; year in and year out!
DR U: Marion Barber III and Jay Cutler are your keepers! Barber is a touchdown machine, and Cutler is going to be a star in this league. Meanwhile, Tatum Bell has not shown he can be a reliable franchise running back, which is one of the reasons he is on a new team this year. DeAngelo Williams is good to have in a keeper league, but I would rank him behind Barber and Cutler. However, Williams would worth re-acquiring if you were able to draft him in the third round.
Reggie Brown and Bernard Berrian are productive receivers, but I don’t think either will ever be superstars, or be able to put up superstar numbers. Vernon Davis is a perfect tight end to have in a keeper league, but tight ends don’t score as many points as quarterbacks and running backs, so I would choose to keep Barber and Cutler over Davis.
As far as strategy, I would suggest finding a couple of reliable veterans in the draft as well as some young players with potential. I am not sure what veterans will be available for you, but the following younger players would be worth a look in the keeper draft: Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Kellen Clemons, Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russell, Drew Stanton, Jerious Norwood, Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson, Brandon Jackson, Lorenzo Booker, Kenny Irons, Vincent Jackson, Patrick Crayton, Brandon Marshall, Devery Henderson, Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Craig Davis, and Dwayne Bowe.
Out of the aforementioned list of players, I would suggest trying to land Tony Romo, Jerious Norwood, Marshawn Lynch, Calvin Johnson, Craig Davis, and Brandon Marshall.
