NFL Team Needs-Arizona Cardinals

2008 Arizona Cardinals Team Needs

Cornerback: Rod Hood and Eric Green are more than serviceable, but the Cardinals could really use a difference maker at corner.  Antrel Rolle might be moved to safety, which is all the more reason Arizona would be wise to draft a cornerback.

Running back: Edgerrin James is an aging veteran that doesn’t fit too well in the Cardinals’ system.  Look for Arizona to try and find a running back in the draft with more speed and burst.

Defensive End: When Bertrand Berry was injured in 2007, the Cardinals’ pass rush noticably suffered.  In other words, Arizona would benefit from adding depth and competition to the position via the draft.

Wide Receiver: The Cardinals have done a nice job holding onto Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.  However, the aforementioned duo have had injury issues in the past.  Furthermore, Bryant Johnson left town, leaving a vacancy at the No. 3 wideout position.  Arizona has the freedom to select a wide receiver at any point in the draft.

Draft Candidates: CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy, CB Aqib Talib, Kansas, RB Felix Jones, Arkansas, RB Jamaal Charles, Texas, DE Lawrence Jackson, USC, DE Chris Ellis, Virginia Tech, WR Will Franklin, Missouri, WR Todd Blythe, Iowa State

Look Arizona has the best talent on offense in the NFL. It is the defense and defensive coordination of Arizona that is atrocious. Quite frankly if their defensive coaches cant get this team playing better than this than I would fire all of them. What I have seen of late is pathetic. They show no concentration or energy on the field. No enthusiasm on that side of the ball. And even less execution. All they do is play stupid freaking zone coverage and no man to man. This allows every good team they play to sot pas and short run for first downs. Also the defensive players on that team don’t tackle!!! Its ridiculous to see how many times per game a running back or receiver is right next to or even gets touched by a Cardinal defensive player yet doesn’t get slowed down or tackled. That defense needs to do a 180 if they are to even have a hope of winning in the playoffs. The last two Superbowls of the Colts and Giants are examples of Defenses stepping up late in the season and allowing their offense to win the game. This last game against Philadelphia was their worst defense I have seen from them yet. Yes Warner did throw three picks which was probably his worst outing of the year but they got blown out. Plus when the defense is doing their job The QB is less likely to try and force things.
All this said I still saw a lot of good offense from the Cards in their loss to the Eagles.

Lastly they need to develop a running game of the goal line at least. They kick too many field goals in the red zone given their offensive talent.

Wake up defense and play rough!
