NFL Team Needs-Jacksonville Jaguars
2008 Jacksonville Jaguars Team Needs
Wide Receiver: The Jaguars just signed quarterback David Garrard to a big contract extension. The club will now need to focus on bringing in some receivers to help Garrard and their offense succeed. Reggie Williams had a respectable 2007 season, but the rest of the wideouts were nowhere near as productive. Jacksonville did bring in Troy Williamson, but similar to Matt Jones, he has never lived up to his potential. The Jags will look to the draft to land a receiver that can consistently catch the ball.
Safety: Sammy Knight has left town, which leaves an opening in their secondary that needs filled. Reggie Nelson seemed overwhelmed last season, which may lead to him being moved to corner. Consequently, the Jaguars will likely draft a strong safety to compete for the starting job.
Defensive End: The Jaguars already have talent and depth at defensive end. However, they have had difficulties with players being unable to stay healthy at the position. Therefore, Jacksonville could afford to try and upgrade to land a durable rush end that has the ability to generate constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Tight End: Marcedes Lewis has the talent to be a perennial pro bowler, but he has never played well enough to earn the free vacation to Hawaii. George Wrightster and Greg Estandia are serviceable tight ends that can block, but the Jaguars would benefit from finding a pass catching tight end via the draft.
Draft Candidates: WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State, WR Early Doucet, LSU, S Charles Godfrey, Iowa, S D.J. Wolfe, Oklahoma, DE Derrick Harvey, Florida, DE Quentin Groves, Auburn, TE Martellus Bennett, Texas A&M, TE Brad Cottam, Tennessee
