NFL Team Needs-Philadelphia Eagles

2008 Philadelphia Eagles Team Needs

Safety: Brian Dawkins is nearing the end of his career, and Sean Considine has had significant shoulder injuries over the last few years.  Therefore, the Eagles are expected to look to the draft to add some depth at safety.

Tight End: L.J. Smith has been so injury prone over the last few seasons, the Eagles will be forced to draft some insurance at the tight end spot.

Cornerback: Ashante Samuel immediately makes the Eagles’ secondary a better unit.  The addition of Samuel also allows Philadelphia the flexibility to trade Lito Sheppard if they opt to go that route.  Even if they decide to keep Sheppard, he hasn’t played a full season since 2003.  Furthermore, Sheldon Brown is better suited for the nickel back role, which means Philly could afford to draft another corner or two.

Wide Receiver: Bottom line, the Eagles haven’t had a serious threat at wideout since Terrell Owens left.  It is time they look to bring Donovan McNabb a playmaker.

Defensive End: Jevon Kearse left town, which led to the Eagles throwing big bucks at Chris Clemons.  Clemons clearly has potential, but Philly took a huge gamble signing an unproven defensive end to a astronomical contract.  Even with Clemons on the roster, Philadelphia still figures to add some depth and competition to the position via the draft.

Draft Candidates: S Kenny Phillips, Miami, S D.J. Wolfe, Oklahoma, TE Fred Davis, USC, TE Kellen Davis, Michigan State, CB Aquib Talib, Kansas, CB Charles Godfrey, Iowa, WR Donnie Avery, Houston, WR Adarius Bowman, Oklahoma State, DE Brian Johnson, Gardner-Webb, DE Rudolph Hardie, Howard
