2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Ted Ginn Jr.

WR Ted Ginn Jr., San Francisco 49ers

2009 Stats: 38 receptions, 454 receiving yards, 3 TDs (2 TDs were kick returns)
Projected 2010 Stats: 56 receptions, 800 receiving yards, 5 TDs
Projected Fantasy Round: 11th Round
Wide Receivers to be picked ahead of Ginn Jr.: Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Randy Moss, etc.

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Ted Ginn Jr.:  In 2009, Ginn showed his potential as a wide receiver in Week 2 when he had 11 receptions for 108 receiving yards.  He also averaged nearly 12 yards per reception.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Ted Ginn Jr.: At this stage of his career, Ginn remains more of a threat on special teams than he does as a legitimate wideout.  He has never had a season where he has had more than 56 catches, and he has yet to eclipse two receiving touchdowns for an entire season.

Bottom Line:  Ginn should be viewed as no more than an injury replacement as a fantasy wideout until he proves otherwise.   With a fresh start in San Francisco, he might be worth a look in the final rounds of your fantasy draft.

2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Drew Brees

QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

2009 Stats: 4,388 passing yards, 36 total TDs, 11 INTs
Projected 2010 Stats: 4,444 passing yards, 34 total TDs,11 INTs
Projected Fantasy Round: 1st Round
Quarterbacks to be picked ahead of Drew Brees: Peyton Manning

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Drew Brees: Over the last two seasons, Brees has averaged 4,728 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns.  Last season, Brees had six games where he tossed at least three scores, and he had another seven contests where he surpassed 300 passing yards.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Drew Brees: The only reason to shy away from Brees would be if you would rather have one of the upper echelon running backs on your squad instead of investing such a high pick on a quarterback.

Bottom Line: Brees is a fantasy machine behind center and would be a steal in the second round.  Problem is, he probably won’t escape out of the first round of your fantasy draft.

2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Chris Johnson

RB Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans

2009 Stats: 2,006 rushing yards, 503 receiving yards, 16 total TDs
Projected 2010 Stats: 1,599 rushing yards, 309 receiving yards, 15 total TDs
Projected Fantasy Round: 1st Round
Running backs to be picked ahead of Chris Johnson: None

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Chris Johnson: With Johnson eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards in 2009, he made a statement that he is now the premier fantasy running back.  Last year, Johnson surpassed triple figures in rushing yards in his last 11 games, and he had 197 rushing yards in Week 2.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Chris Johnson: In 2009, Johnson had 358 carries, which could translate into a big dip in his numbers in 2010 from being overworked.

Bottom Line:  Johnson will now be the popular pick to be the first overall player drafted in several fantasy drafts.

2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Santonio Holmes

WR Santonio Holmes, New York Jets

2009 Stats: 79 receptions, 1,248 receiving yards, 5 TDs
Projected 2010 Stats: 41 receptions, 769 receiving yards, 5 TDs
Projected Fantasy Round: 10th Round
Wide Receivers to be picked ahead of Santonio Holmes: Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Randy Moss, etc.

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Santonio Holmes: Last season, Holmes had a career high in receptions and receiving yards.  He also had three games where he eclipsed triple figures in receiving yards and had at least four receptions in 12 contests.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Santonio Holmes: Due to his off-the-field conduct, Holmes will be suspended for four games in 2010.   He will also play for a more run-happy offense than what he is leaving in Pittsburgh.

Bottom Line: Since Holmes has to sit out of at least four games in 2010, he should be viewed as a No.3 fantasy receiver.   However, he will be a nice value in the later rounds.

2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Ben Roethlisberger

QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

2009 Stats: 4328 passing yards, 28 total TDs, 12 INTs
Projected 2010 Stats: 3653 passing yards, 23 total TDs, 16 INTs
Projected Fantasy Round: 4th Round
Quarterbacks to be picked ahead of Ben Roethlisberger: Peyton  Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, etc.

Fantasy Outlook:

Why you should draft Ben Roethlisberger: Over the last three seasons, Roethlisberger averaged 3,594 passing yards and 27 total touchdowns.  In 2009, Big Ben was able to amass over 300 passing yards in five contests, which included games of 417 and 503 yards.

Why you may want to stay away from drafting Ben Roethlisberger:  Roethlisberger has been a star on the field, but he has not shined off of the field.   The latest incident could have him facing a team or league suspension even though he was not charged with a crime.   He also lost one of his favorite targets in Santonio Holmes when he was recently traded to the New York Jets.

Bottom Line:  Even with Roethlisberger’s off-the-field issues, he should still be viewed as an upper tier, No. 1 fantasy quarterback.  He would be an excellent value in the middle rounds.
