Lions have Nine Lives
The Detroit Lions currently occupy the ninth spot in the upcoming NFL Draft. Obviously, that means they will be able to draft a top ten player, but prior drafts have shown that a team can get a great value at No. 9. In other words, the Lions have the opportunity to land a player talented enough to be in the top five, but not have to pay him that kind of money. The following bargain players were selected ninth overall:
Hugh McElhenny, 49ers (1952)
Lenny Moore, Colts (1956)
Otis Armstrong, Broncos (1973)
Gerald Riggs, Falcons (1982)
Bruce Mathews, Oilers (1983)
Jerome Brown, Eagles (1987)
Terry McDaniel, Raiders (1988)
Richmond Webb, Dolphins (1990)
Lincoln Kennedy, Falcons (1993)
Kyle Brady, Jets (1995)
Fred Taylor, Jaguars (1998)
Brian Urlacher, Bears (2000)
Koren Robinson, Seahawks (2001)

Wide Receivers Drafted After the First Round
Florida Gator, Chad Jackson and Ohio State Buckeye, Santonio Holmes figure to be drafted in the first round in the upcoming NFL Draft. If your favorite team does not happen to land either player, there is no need to panic. In fact, it has been proven that a team can obtain talented wide receivers deep into the draft. The following players head the class:
Raymond Berry, Colts (1954, 20th round)
Fred Biletnikoff, Lions (1965, 3rd round)
Charlie Joiner, Oilers (1969, 4th round)
John Stallworth, Steelers (1974, 4th round)
Steve Largent, Oilers (1976, 4th round)
Henry Ellard, Rams, (1983, 2nd round)
