Brett Favre Drafted by the Atlanta Falcons

Brett_favre Most football fans know that Brett Favre was not drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Favre was selected as the 33rd overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons, but do you happen to know who the Packers drafted two picks later in that same draft?

The answer is… NT Esera Tuaolo from Oregon State.

I wonder if that trivia question would have even stumped the mastermind behind the website that provides the leading coverage of the Green Bay Packers.

NFL Free Agency Grades-NFC West

Arizona Cardinals-Re-signed-QB Kurt Warner, CB Robert Tate, Signed-RB Edgerrin James (Colts), G Milford Brown (Texans), DT Kendrick Clancy (Giants)

Grade: The Cardinals brought in Edgerrin James…..enough said! A

San Francisco 49ers-Re-signed-LB Brandon Moore, K Joe Nedney, QB Jesse Palmer, Signed-G Larry Allen (Cowboys), CB Walt Harris (Redskins), WR Jason McAddley (waivers), WR Bryan Gilmore (waivers), WR Antonio Bryant (Browns)

Grade: The 49ers made some great moves in signing two former Dallas Cowboys, Larry Allen and Antonio Bryant. B-

Seattle Seahawks-Re-signed-RB Shaun Alexander, RB Mack Strong, CB Jimmy Williams, DT Rocky Bernard, WR Peter Warrick, Signed-TE Will Heller (Dolphins), DT Russell Davis (Cardinals), T Tom Ashworth (Patriots), LB Julian Petersen (49ers), Cut-CB Andre Dyson, CB Michael Harden, LB Jamie Sharper

Grade: It can’t be a bad off-season when a team re-signs the reigning rushing champion (Alexander), his lead blocker (Strong), and they bring in a highly talented defensive star (Petersen). A

St. Louis Rams-Re-Signed-WR Isaac Bruce, Signed-QB Gus Ferotte (Dolphins), CB Fakhir Brown (Saints), LB Will Witherspoon (Panthers), DT La’Roi Glover

Grade: The Rams have really worked on improving their defense with the additions of Witherspoon and Glover. B

NFL Free Agency Grades-NFC South

Atlanta Falcons-Re-signed-S Omare Lowe, WR Brian Finneran, LB John Leake, Signed-S Lawyer Milloy (Bills), CB Brandon Williams (Giants) Trade-DE John Abraham (Jets), S Chris Crocker (Browns), Cut-DE Brady Smith

Grade: The Falcons have made some decent moves this off-season. They were able land Abraham in a trade and sign Milloy and Williams to help their secondary. B+

Carolina Panthers-Re-Signed-RB DeShaun Foster, QB Chris Weinke, Signed-WR Keyshawn Johnson (Cowboys), S Kevin McCadam (Falcons), DT Maake Kemoeatu (Ravens), S Shaun Williams (Giants), C Justin Hartwig (Titans), NT Damione Lewis (Rams), Cut-LB Brandon Short, RB Stephen Davis, RB Rod Smart, DT Brenston Buckner

Grade: The Panthers did well to re-sign Foster and Keyshawn should be the perfect wideout to lineup opposite Steve Smith. A-

New Orleans Saints-Re-signed-Terrance Melton, LB James Allen, Signed-S Omar Stoutmire (Redskins), RB Michael Bennett (Vikings), QB Drew Brees (Chargers), LB Scott Fujita (Cowboys)

Grade: The Saints signed a couple key players in Bennett and Brees. Fujita is a very coachable player at linebacker. B

Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Re-signed-TE Dave Moore, DT Chris Hovan, K Matt Bryant, RB Mike Alstott, QB Chris Simms, Signed-G Toniu Fonoti (Vikings), Cut-G Matt Stinchcomb, LB Jeff Gooch, QB Brian Griese

Grade: Tampa Bay has been quiet this off-season, but they did manage to re-sign Alstott and Simms. C-

NFL Free Agency Grades-NFC North

Chicago Bears-Re-signed-TE John Gilmore, DT Israel Idonije, Signed-QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers), CB Dante Wesley (Panthers), Cut-WR Eddie Berlin

Grade: The Bears have been in hibernation this free agency season. However, Griese is a nice signing and could end up being the starting quarterback in Chicago. C

Detroit Lions-Re-signed-DE Kalimba Edwards, WR Eddie Drummond, RB Shawn Bryson, DE Jared DeVries, T Victor Rogers, Signed-T Courtney VanBuren (Chargers), T Barry Stokes (Falcons), LB LeVar Woods (Cardinals), LB Paris Lenon (Packers), T Rex Tucker (Rams), QB Josh McCown (Cardinals), RB Arlen Harris (Rams), TE Dan Campbell (Cowboys), WR Corey Bradford (Texans), QB Shaun King (Buccaneers)

Grade: The Lions have had a very productive off-season, and they have filled several needs. They also re-signed some key players. McCown, Bradford, and Campbell should all be key contributors this season. A

Green Bay Packers-Re-signed-DT Colin Cole, WR Rod Gardner, RB William Henderson, T Kevin Barry, DE Kenny Peterson, DE Aaron Kampman, Signed-QB Tom Arth (free agent), NT Ryan Pickett (Rams), LB Tracy White (Jaguars), S Marquand Manuel (Seahawks), C Wayne Lucier (Giants), K Billy Cundiff (Cowboys), WR Mark Boerigter (Chiefs), LB Ben Taylor (Browns), Cut-LB Na’il Diggs, LB John Leake

Grade: The Packers have not been overly active in free agency…just ask Brett Favre! However, Manuel and Pickett are solid additions to their defense.  White will contribute right away on special teams. However, Green Bay brought in Taylor to help make up for the departures of Diggs and Leake. Taylor is a solid tackler and is just what the Packers needed to improve their defense. B+

Minnesota Vikings-Re-signed-WR Koren Robinson, S Willie Offord, Signed-S Tank Williams, QB Mike McMahon, DE DeQuincy Scott, RB Tony Richardson, G Steve Hutchinson, G Jason Whittle, RB Chester Taylor (Ravens), LB Ben Leber, K Ryan Longwell

Grade: The Vikings have been busy this off-season, trading QB Daunte Culpepper, re-signing WR Koren Robinson, losing RB Michael Bennett to free agency, and signing a whole laundry list of free agents. Richardson, Taylor, Hutchinson, and Longwell highlight their free agency class. A-

NFL Free Agency Grades-NFC East

Dallas Cowboys-Re-signed-CB Jacques Reeves, G Andre Gurode, WR Patrick Crayton, Terrance Copper, Signed-K Mike Vanderjagt (Colts), LB Rocky Boilman (Titans), TE Ryan Hannam (Seahawks), WR Terrell Owens (Eagles), T Jason Fabini (Jets), LB Akin Ayodele (Jaguars), Kyle Kosier (Lions), Cut-T Jacob Rogers, WR Keyshawn Johnson, DT La’Roi Glover, G Larry Allen

Grade: If T.O. can turn over a new leaf, Dallas might have had one of the better free agency seasons in recent memory. Vanderjagt gives them an accurate, reliable kicker, which they have needed for the last several seasons. Kosier and Ayodele should be major contributors this season, especially with the retirement of LB Dat Nguyen and the release of G Larry Allen.  A-

New York Giants-Re-signed-WR Tim Carter, WR David Tyree, G Kelly Lewis, T Bob Whitfield, RB Chad Morton, QB Tim Hasselbeck, Signed-S Will Demps (Ravens), CB R.W. McQuarters (Lions), S Quentin Harris (Cardinals), CB Jason Bell (Texans), G Lewis Kelly (Vikings), Cut-T DeMar Enoch

Grade: Demps and McQuarters should pay immediate dividends for the G-Men, but their lack of aggression in the free agency market, could have them looking up at the rest of the division. C

Philadelphia Eagles-Re-signed-T Jon Runyan, WR Darnerien McCants, Signed-QB Jeff Garcia (Lions), WR Jabar Gaffney (Texans), DE Darren Howard (Saints), TE Matt Schobel (Bengals), LB Shawn Barber (Chiefs), Cut-QB Andy Hall, QB Mike McMahon, WR Terrell Owens

Grade: Howard should be a monster in Philly lining up opposite Jevon Kearse. Garcia, Gaffney, Barber, and Schobel do not seem like exciting signings, but they are the perfect role players for the Eagles. B

Washington Redskins-Re-signed-LB Khary Campbell, S Matt Bowen, RB Rock Cartwright, Signed-G Mike Pucillo, G Tyson Walter, DT Cedrick Killings, QB Todd Collins, S Adam Archuleta (Rams), LB Andre Carter, TE Christian Fauria (Patriots), Antwaan Randle El (Steelers), Trade-Brandon Lloyd (49ers), Cut-CB Walt Harris, P Tom Tupa, DT Brandon Noble, C Cory Raymer, LB LaVar Arrington

Grade: The Redskins have been very active this off-season, but has anyone noticed that they have loaded up on wide receivers that are all equally as small as one another? Archuleta is a great safety, but he is also a concussion waiting to happen. Once again, Mr. Snyder overspent in free agency and just recruited names to play for him, i.e. Andre Carter. D
