2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Brett Favre
QB Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings
2009 Stats: 4,202 passing yards, 33 total TDs, 7 INTs
Projected 2010 Stats: 3,428 passing yards, 25 total TDs, 12 INTs
Projected Fantasy Round: 6th Round
Quarterbacks to be picked ahead of Brett Favre: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, etc.
Fantasy Outlook:
Why you should draft Brett Favre: Last season, Favre had six games where he eclipsed 300 passing yards, and he had multiple scores in ten contests. In fact, he had at least three touchdown passes in six games.
Why you may want to stay away from drafting Brett Favre: Favre is now a grandfather, and he is trying to recover from a bad ankle. Consequently, it is almost certain that his numbers from 2009 will dip at least slightly. In 2009, Favre had two games where he threw for less than 200 passing yards, and he failed to throw a single touchdown pass in two contests.
Bottom Line: Do not expect Favre to put up quite the fantasy numbers he had last season. However, he still should be viewed as a legitimate No.1 fantasy quarterback.
2010 Fantasy Football Potential Busts
Here are some players that are either very risky picks or are threats to be a bust in 2010.
QB Donovan McNabb, Redskins
QB Matt Leinart, Cardinals
RB Ronnie Brown, Dolphins
RB Beanie Wells, Cardinals
WR Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals
WR Hines Ward, Steelers
TE Antonio Gates, Chargers
Ask DR U: Who is on the Rise?
Adam asks, can you name some players that are poised for a breakout fantasy season?
DR U: I think the following players should see a nice spike in their numbers for the 2010 campaign:
QB Joe Flacco, Ravens
QB Tony Romo, Cowboys
QB Jay Cutler, Bears
QB Jason Campbell, Raiders
RB Michael Turner, Falcons
RB Jonathan Stewart, Panthers
WR Miles Austin, Cowboys
WR Santana Moss, Redskins
WR Eddie Royal, Broncos
WE Early Doucet, Cardinals
TE Jermichael Finley, Packers
Ask DR U: Third Pick Problem
Peter asks, I have the third pick in our 14-team standard scoring league. Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson will likely be gone when it comes to my pick. Who should I take?
DR U: I would recommend Maurice Jones-Drew to be your pick in that spot. You could also consider Ray Rice or Drew Brees. However, MJD is the safe pick, and he is going third overall in most drafts. If you were in a PPR league, Brees and Rice would certatainly be worth being drafted third overall.
Ask DR U: Should I Take a Gamble on Welker?
Rich asks, I am considering drafting Wes Welker, is that a bad idea?
DR U: Welker has been working really hard to try and recover from his severe knee injury. He certainly looks like he is well on his way to being recovered. However, players generally do not recover this quickly after tearing their ACL. Therefore, Welker should be viewed as a high risk, high reward fantasy player. If you wait until the 7th or 8th round before drafting him, then he is certainly worth selecting. However, if you devote your 5th or 6th round pick on him, you are certainly making a gamble. At that point in the draft, it would be safer to draft Chad Ochocinco or Dwayne Bowe. With that being said, if you are in a PPR league, Welker would warrant a 5th round pick. Bottom line, I would not shy away from drafting Welker, but the key is not too take him too early in the draft if you do not have to.
