2010 Fantasy Football Player Profile-Terrell Owens
WR Terrell Owens, Cincinnati Bengals
2009 Stats: 55 receptions, 829 receiving yards, 5 total TDs
Projected 2010 Stats: 64 receptions, 1,004 receiving yards, 9 total TDs
Projected Fantasy Round: 8th Round
Wide Receivers to be picked ahead of Terrell Owens: Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Randy Moss, etc.
Fantasy Outlook:
Why you may want to draft Terrell Owens: Prior to last year where Owens was lost in Buffalo, the previous three seasons he averaged 78 receptions, 1,195 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. With T.O. being able to lineup opposite Chad Ochocinco, Owens figures to see a lot of single coverage. Consequently, Owens should be able to put up some very respectable numbers in 2010.
Why you may want to stay away from drafting Terrell Owens: Last season, Owens was limited to three receptions or fewer in 11 games, including two weeks where he was held without a single catch. In 2009, T.O. was held to under 40 receiving yards in nine contests.
Bottom Line: Throughout his career, Owens has proved he will produce when he has an elite quarterback throwing him the ball. With Carson Palmer as his quarterback, Owens should be viewed as a solid No.2 fantasy receiver.
Ask DR U: Palmer and Ochocinco on the Rise?
TJ asks, did Carson Palmer’s and Chad Ochocinco’s stock rise with the Bengals signing Terrell Owens?
DR U: The short answer is yes. Both Palmer and Ochocinco should see their numbers rise significantly from a season ago. I think the player that could benefit the most from the addition of Owens is their tight end, Jermaine Gresham. Gresham won’t be the focal point for opposing defenses to game plan against. Therefore, he could contribute right away in stretching the middle of the field and being a red zone threat. Ochocinco will try to score more touchdowns this year so he can out perform T.O. in touchdown celebrations. Palmer could very easily throw for more than 30 touchdowns this season if he stays healthy.
Ask DR U: QB or RB?
Tracey asks, I have the last pick in my fantasy draft and I am not sure whether to draft the fifth or sixth best running back or take one of the better quarterbacks like Drew Brees in the first round. What would you suggest I do?
DR U: A couple years ago, I would have suggested to take the running back. However, with the NFL becoming more of a passing league, I think it now makes sense to take the top quarterback at the end of the first round. I would just devote your next couple picks to taking some quality running backs to ensure you have a potent fantasy roster.
