RECOMMENDED, NOT RECOMMENDED – Week 5

QUARTERBACKS – RECOMMENDED BY DR U

Jake Delhomme, Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals

In Week 3, Delhomme threw for 285 yards, 3 TDs. He will face an Arizona defense that has allowed an unhealthy 307.5 yards per game. Opposing quarterbacks have also been able to feel comfortable, completing 61.7 percent of their passes. There is good reason to believe that Delhomme will gallop into the desert and leave riding off in the sunset, leaving a trail of huge numbers behind.

Starting Delhomme this week is prescribed and should result in an increase in production for your fantasy team.

Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

McNabb has decided to keep playing despite the fact he is ailing with a sports hernia. He really needs to realize that he is hurting the team by opting to play through injury. In Week 4, he was only able to muster 369 yards passing, 3 TDs. He also had to get some help, well a little bit of help, overcoming a 24-6 deficit that was erased when he somewhat willed his team to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, 37-31. All kidding aside, McNabb is one tough quarterback.

In Week 5, he will face the Dallas defense that is prone to giving up the big play via the pass. The Cowboys pass defense has yielded 265.5 yards and 1.75 TDs per game.

The prognosis is simple, start McNabb! Here are the rest of this week’s meds…

QUARTERBACKS – NOT RECOMMENDED BY DR U

Joey Harrington, Detroit Lions vs Baltimore Ravens

Harrington has averaged only 166.7 passing yards per game. In Week 4, the Detroit signal caller had only 137 yards through the air and failed to throw a touchdown pass. He has only passed for one touchdown this year versus five interceptions. In Week 5, Harrington will be lined up against a talented Ravens defense and will not likely have WR Charles Rogers at his disposal. Rogers has been issued a four-game suspension (appeal could be filed) for an alleged violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

X-Rays are in and the results show that Harrington has been choking in fantasy and belongs on your bench at this time.

RUNNINGBACKS – RECOMMENDED BY DR U

Willis McGahee, Buffalo Bills Vs Miami Dolphins

If you throw out the Tampa Bay game in Week 2, McGahee is averaging 113.37 yards per game. He likely will not get anywhere near that many yards this week against a stingy Miami run defense. However, he is due for a multiple touchdown game.

Miami has a strong run defense, there is a good chance that you will be seeking another opinion after you follow this recommendation.

Domanick Davis, Houston Texans Vs Tennessee Titans

Why did you draft this guy in the first round? He is averaging a pathetic 62.67 yards per game. He has yet to post one measly rushing touchdown. Relax! Take a deep breath. After this week, you will remember why you drafted him early. In Week 1, RB Willie Parker of the Steelers torched the Tennessee defense for 161 yards, and Edge (Colts RB) hung 90 on them last week.

The lab results indicate that Davis will have a big week. Start him!

RUNNINGBACKS – NOT RECOMMENDED BY DR U

Rudi Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars

Rudi will get his 80 yards, but against the Jags defense, it is not likely that he will find the endzone. Of course, Rudi does not deserve all of the blame if he does not post huge numbers, QB Carson Palmer is stealing his thunder by throwing all those touchdowns.

The recommendation is not to bench him, but also not to expect Rudi to heal your fantasy team this week.

WIDE RECEIVERS – RECOMMENDED BY DR U

Terrell Owens, Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

T.O. at Texas Stadium, a big game is mandatory. Owens loves to flex his muscles on the Cowboys stars that can be found at midfield and in the end zone. He may never make the long journey to celebrate on the midfield star ever again, but it is inevitable that he will have the opportunity to showcase his touchdown celebrations. This year, he is averaging 126.5 yards and one touchdown per game. Dallas has been giving opposing teams frequent flyer miles for free this year, and the Owens-McNabb combo is sure to occupy the air against the Cowboys pass defense.

I am going to refer you to Dr. Owens this week, because he is sure to put on a clinic against the Cowboys.

Derrick Mason, Baltimore Ravens at Detroit Lions

Mason is averaging seven receptions per game. Detroit has problems in the secondary and just recently lost CB Fernando Bryant for the year. However, they were able to hold Tampa Bay WR Joey Galloway to only 166 yards and one touchdown in Week 4.

There is no MRI needed, Mason will put up some huge numbers.

Santana Moss, Washington Redskins at Denver Broncos

Moss has had one big week, and that was against a suspect Dallas pass defense. Moss will have Denver CB Champ Bailey shadowing him all day. Enough said!

The recommendation is to sit Moss this week as he will not be able to handle the dosage of defense that he will get from Bailey.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENTS – PRESCRIBED BY DR U

QB Josh McCown, Arizona Cardinals- Pick him up with the idea in mind that he should be viewed as not much more than a serviceable player if your main quarterback is injured or on bye. However, he did rack up 385 yards passing in Week 4 and head coach, Dennis Green is not afraid to utilize an aerial attack.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENTS – NOT PRESCRIBED BY DR U
QB Mark Brunell, Washington Redskins- He is 35 years old and is an injury waiting to happen. His best fantasy days are behind him. However, his four touchdown tosses in his last two starts could add some trade value to Brunell. If you have him, trade him now.
