RECOMMENDED, NOT RECOMMENDED-Week 8
QUARTERBACKS-RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Drew Brees, San Diego Chargers Vs Kansas City Chiefs
Brees had his best game of the season in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Brees was able to throw for 299 yards and 2 TDs against a stingy Philly defense. The Chiefs are susceptible to games where they give up a huge chunk of passing yards. So far this season, the Kansas City secondary has allowed QB Donovan McNabb to pass for 369 yards and 3 TDs (Week 4) and QB Mark Brunell to throw for 331 yards and 3TDs (Week 6).
According to the doc’s medical records, Brees had healthy stats last season. In Week 8, Brees will return to last year’s form.
Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers
Culpepper has had two quality games this year. In Week 3 and Week 7, Culpepper racked up a combined 580 yards passing, while throwing for 5 TDs versus 0 INTs. The rest of the games, Culpepper has thrown for 12 INTs versus only 1 TD. In Week 5, the Panthers pass defense was annihliated by QB Josh McCown to the tune of 394 yards and 2 TDs.
The doc has cured Culpepper … at least for this week.
OTHER RECOMMENDED QUARTERBACKS BY DR U
Mark Brunell-Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Brett Favre-Green Bay Packers at Cincinnati Bengals
Kerry Collins-Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans
Tom Brady- New England Patriots Vs Buffalo Bills
QUARTERBACKS-NOT RECOMENNDED BY DR U
Eli Manning, New York Giants Vs Washington Redskins
Over the last three games, the Redskins secondary is allowing an average of just 122 passing yards and less than 1 TD per game. Eli is a becoming a great quarterback before our eyes, but you might want to eye an alternative quarterback this week for fantasy.
RUNNING BACKS- RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Willis McGahee, Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
McGahee has been a little up-and-down this season. In Week 3 and Week 6, he eclipsed 140 yards in each contest. In Week 2 and Week 7, he failed to rush for more than 50 yards in a game. The Patriots run defense has been uncharacteristically bad. They allowed this trio of running backs to have the following huge numbers: Tatum Bell 114 yards and 1 TD, LaDanian Tomlinson 134 yards and 2 TDs, and Stephen Davis 77 yards and 3TDs. If you are scoring at home, the aforementioned rushers ran for an average of 108 yards and 2 TDs per game.
The Patriots will be fired up as it appears LB Tedy Bruschi will return to their lineup. However, the doc is still prescribing a big game from McGahee.
Reuben Droughns, Cleveland Browns at Houston Texans
In Week 7, Droughns had his best game of this season as he was able to rush for 100 yards against a solid Detroit Lions defense. Houston has allowed the last two running backs to have the following Pro Bowl-like numbers: Edgerrin James 139 yards and 2 TDs and Shaun Alexander 141 yards and 4 TDs. In other words, James’ and Alexander’s output combined, averaged 140 yards and 3 TDs per game.
Droughns has yet to find the end zone this season. However, before the doc diagnoses him as a fantasy bust, let’s allow Droughns to have his one good week.
OTHER RECOMMENDED RUNNING BACKS BY DR U
Clinton Portis-Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Lamont Jordan-Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans
Ronnie Brown-Miami Dolphins at New Orleans Saints
RUNNING BACKS NOT RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Rudi Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals Vs Green Bay Packers
Over the last three games, Johnson is averaging only 74 yards per game and has only 1 TD in that stint. Over their last three games, the Packers rush defense has limited Mewelde Moore to 45 yards, Antowain Smith to 36 yards, and Stephen Davis to 51 yards. To put it in perspective, Green Bay has allowed the opposing teams’ leading running back to rush for an average of just 44 yards per game.
The doc is not prescribing to bench Rudi necessarily, but the Packers holding opposing running backs in check, is starting to get contagious.
WIDE RECEIVERS RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Terry Glenn, Dallas Cowboys Vs Arizona Cardinals
In Week 2, 3, and 5, Glenn averaged 137 yards and 1 TD per game. All other weeks, Glenn has averaged only 51 yards and 0 TDs per game. The Arizona pass defense is equally as up-and-down as Glenn. In Week 7, QB Drew Bledsoe completed only 13 passes for a season low 136 yards. Bledsoe is going to be seeking redemption, and Glenn will be the beneficiary.
The X-Rays are in, and they reveal a more open Dallas Cowboys’ offense and some healthy stats for Glenn.
Eric Moulds, Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
Moulds is averaging an embarrassing 34 yards receiving per game. However, he does have a touchdown catch in two-out-of-his-last three games. Now with QB Kelly Holcomb behind center, Moulds stats should start rising significantly. The Patriots defense have given up a 100-yard receiver (including tight ends) in every game, except one this season.
The doc has noticed the symptoms in the Patriots ailing pass defense and the prognosis bodes well for Moulds.
OTHER WIDE RECEIVERS RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Keenan McCardell- Tampa Bay Buccaneers at San Francisco 49ers
Steve Smith- Carolina Panthers Vs Minnesota Vikings
Santana Moss- Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Chad Johnson- Cincinnati Bengals Vs Green Bay Packers
WIDE RECEIVERS NOT RECOMMENDED BY DR U
Chris Chambers, Miami Dolphins at New Orleans Saints
Chambers is averaging a mere 59 receiving yards per game and has just 2 TDs all season. The Saints pass defense has held their last three opponents at bay. WR Kevin Curtis had just 69 yards,
TE Alge Crumpler had only 52 yards and WR Robert Ferguson had 84 receiving yards. In other words, the last three opposing leading receivers have averaged only 68 yards per contest against New Orleans.
The doc has referred Chambers to a different clinic, and the Saints secondary will be hosting that clinic on Chambers.
POSSIBLE FREE AGENTS PRESCRIBED BY DR U
RB Marian Barber III, Dallas Cowboys
Julius Jones is having trouble staying healthy. In Week 7, Barber was the replacement for Jones and rushed for 95 yards. Jones looks to be out this week as well. Therefore, Barber should shoulder the bulk of the carries again this week.
WR Az-Zahir Hakim, New Orleans Saints
Over the last three weeks, Hakim has quietly averaged 98 reception yards per game. His teammates, WR Joe Horn and WR Donte’ Stallworth are banged up. Hakim is not exactly healthy himself. However, if Hakim can shake off his injuries, then he should continue to boast good numbers.
