Super Bowl Commercials Overrated
I don’t understand all the hype surrounding the commercials during the Super Bowl. I know it costs advertisers about $6 million just for 30 seconds of air time, but the commercials never seem to be worth anywhere near that amount.
I would take the Pro Bowl commercials over the Super Bowl commercials any day. During the Pro Bowl commercials, I get to hear David Spade say "No" to every customer…see Lebron James sporting an afro…watch some Jeremy guy shed another 50 pounds from walking to and from Subway…and of course witness Shaq endorsing the Icy Hot patch.
So for all of you that huddled around the television just to see what they would show on this year’s Go Daddy.com ad, I hope you weren’t too disappointed. Irregardless, I feel it is my obligation to tell you that if you are seeking some real entertainment, then go buy a sandwich from Subway… using your Capital One card… and wash it down with some Sprite… and don’t forget to put on your Icy Hot patch… this Sunday as you relax while watching the Pro Bowl commercials!

Ok, although there were some duds this year, there were some really great commercials. I loved the cell phone ads and the Fed Ex one too. In the past advertisers seemed to be willing to take more risks on the commercials they created for this event, but since the “Wardrobe Malfunction” of 2004 and the complaints about GoDaddy.com’s spoof of that last year, ad execs seemed to have toned it down. Darn lawyers suing everyone…
But the point is, these commercials are what pull the female population into the game. Most women can’t remember who was playing (Titans v. Rams) or who won 6 years ago (Rams) but I will never forget the commercial that had three monkeys just staring at us, and the tag line “We just wasted 1.75 million dollars on this commercial, let us help you find a better way to spend your money.” These are the female populations great historical moments.
