Terrell Owens Better than Jerry Rice?
Did you happen to know?
- Adrian Peterson (Vikings) is averaging 120.1 rushing yards per game, and if he was able to continue that pace, without missing any games, he would reach the 10,000 yards plateau in just over five seasons.
- Devin Hester (Bears) has 10 returns for touchdowns in 27 regular season games.
- Brett Favre (Packers) is expected to make his 250th consecutive start in Week 14.
- Terrell Owens (Cowboys) might not ever actually be deemed better than Jerry Rice, but it is tough to ignore that fact that Owens averages more touchdown receptions per game at .75 (128 TD receptions in 170 games) than Jerry Rice did at .65 (197 TD receptions in 303 games).

Jerry Rice is better than TO. Jerry’s years after the 49ers dropped his TD per game average. TO has no class (to many years of misbehavior will always taint him, Jerry Rice defines class in football players. Jerry Rice was a true team player. He was always willing to catch over the middle when needed, as well as block down field. You can not say the same about TO. There is more to being a great WR than just TDs per game. Jerry Rice has it TO doesn’t.

Ben,
I certainly do not disagree with you that Rice should be considered the better receiver, but I do not agree with you that T.O. is not willing to catch the ball over the middle and block down field.
Owens routinely catches passes over the middle, and if you want an example of his blocking down field, this season against the Rams, Patick Crayton caught a pass, and he was about 20 yards ahead of Owens, and T.O. was able to not only catch Crayton, but pass him to set a block for him to ensure he could score a TD.
They both are great receivers, and I give the nod to Rice with attitude, reliability, and not dropping passes, but I give the nod to T.O. in speed and agility.
Thank you for the comment.

Jerry Rice is far better than Owens, on and off the turf..
Jerry Rice is a traditional player at his position. Follow Route, catch, and block, someone like marvin harrison.. TO is different, he’s fast, fancy and strong, he and Randy Moss revolutionized the game. For me, when you talk of talent TO and Moss are the best WRs ever. Rice and Harrison has great QBs, while TO and Moss made their QBs great.
I think the question should be, if you’re a coach which one would you prefer? Rice or Owens? Harrison or Moss?

Todd,
It was just a title to make people think, how in the world is T.O. better than Rice? Then you can read that Owens averages more TDs per game.
That being said, I don’t think that is enough data to state Owens is better than Rice, nor do I think Owens is better than Rice, but there is no questioning the fact that T.O. produces.
Thank you for the comment.

Terrell Owens is a far better wide receiver, the only thing that differs the two is that Rice has played longer, i guarantee Owens will pass Rice as far as TDs and overall stats. His behavior and all that is just who he is, he wants to win, who doesnt, hes just a little more aggresive. He might not be a motivational speaker for the team but he does try and he does do well. Im not dissing Rice i think he is a good player, I just think that people put down Owens for his attitude and dont give him credit for how good he really is. Just watch and see, youll see what i mean throught the 2008 year

Hey Dante,
How many Superbowl rings does Owens have? Rice has a few of those and he has almost every WR record in the book. You must not have actually watched Rice play. All you see is 2008, how quickly people forget…

By the time Jerry Rice was 34 (Terrell Owens age as of 2008), Rice had 154 TDs compared to TO’s 128). Also, it was Rice’s 12 Season compared to TO’s 13th season.
TO is going downhill, he will not pass Rice’s TD record.
