You never know about quarterbacks, but I will be very surprised if Drew Stanton is able to get drafted in the first 40 or so picks. To me, he’s a second-day pick at best. I don’t think that Chris Leak needs a big game, I think he might need a prayer. I don’t think he’s going to be drafted because of his height. Troy Smith has a height problem, but had a very nice career (as did Leak, really) and will be drafted on the first day. And I think Michael Griffin will be a first-round pick.

Old Cleat,
Drew Stanton right now is being considered by many (including Kiper) as the third best quarteback in the draft. There of course will be a huge gap of when Stanton gets picked compared to where Russell and Quinn get drafted. It is a bit of a reach right now to think Stanton will go in the first round, but it is not impossible. That is why I think with an outstanding Senior Bowl (including practices), he has a chance to be selected in the first round.
I think Leak needs a good game to ensure that he is drafted. I happen to think Leak will get drafted, because he throws the ball with a tight spiral and is a proven winner. However, I think with a great Senior Bowl, Leak would become a virtual lock to be drafted and that is why he needs a great game.
I agree that Troy Smith is a first day pick, but if he shines above all the other quarterbacks, how high can he be selected? Smith could then be a second round pick, flirting with being a first rounder. On the flip side, if Smith struggles, he might slide to the second day. That is why it is important that Smith plays well in the Senior Bowl.
Thank you for your comment.

I don’t think Troy Smith will be a first day pick. The QB class is weak this year. What do you think of this NFL Draft Site-Blog?
